Sam — on call across Bristol, 24/7
When you phone AA Lock & Key in an emergency, you reach Sam — not a call centre, not a national dispatch number, not somebody reading from a script. The person on the phone is the person coming out, and the person coming out is the person you’ll be paying.
Sam covers all Bristol BS postcodes from his Bristol base, day or night, weekend or bank holiday, same price either way.
If it’s an emergency, it’s our job
Most emergency locksmith calls in Bristol fit one of these patterns. If yours doesn’t, phone us anyway — we’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right people for the job.
Locked out of your home
Slammed the door behind you. Lost the keys somewhere on the school run. Babysitter went home with your spare. Non-destructive entry first, every time — around 9 out of 10 lock-outs are opened without damage.
Learn more about lock-outs →Snapped or broken key
Key snapped in the lock. Half the key in your pocket, half stuck in the cylinder. We extract the broken piece and, where possible, save the lock so you don’t need a full replacement. From £85.
Broken or failed lock
Lock turns but won’t open. Key won’t go in. Cylinder spinning freely. Mechanism jammed. Most of these are mechanical failures we can repair on site — new lock only needed if the existing one is genuinely beyond saving.
Burglary or attempted break-in
Your door has been forced. We replace damaged locks, secure the door, and give you an insurance-ready invoice. Call the police first — we can’t legally start work until you have a crime reference number.
Burglary repair details →UPVC door won’t lock or won’t open
Handle gone floppy, door dropped on its hinges, multi-point mechanism jammed. UPVC door problems get worse fast — usually until the door won’t shut at all, usually on a Sunday. We carry common parts on the van.
Office or commercial emergency
Locked out of the shop, cafe or office. Master key suite issue. Door alignment problem on a fire exit. Same 30-minute target as residential. 14-day invoice terms for repeat commercial clients.
While you’re waiting for us
Three things worth knowing if you’ve just phoned and we’re on our way:
- If you’re locked out and somewhere unsafe — a dark street, bad weather, with small children — tell us when you call. We can sometimes ask a neighbour to let you wait somewhere warm, or send our ETA more precisely so you’re not standing outside longer than necessary.
- If a burglar has been in — call the police on 101 first (or 999 if you think they might still be nearby). Don’t touch the broken door or anything in the room they came through — the police may need to take prints or photos. Get a crime reference number; we’ll need it before we can legally start work.
- If you can send us a photo — WhatsApp the door, the lock, or whatever’s broken. It helps us bring the right parts on the first visit so we don’t have to come back twice. Especially useful for snapped keys and UPVC door problems.

What Bristol callers ask in an emergency
How quickly can you really get to me?
Under 30 minutes across Bristol — genuinely. Inner Bristol (Clifton, Bedminster, Bishopston, Easton, Cotham) is usually 20–25 minutes. Outer areas and South Gloucestershire are 25–30 minutes. We give you an honest ETA on the call before we set off — not a fake “15 minutes anywhere in Bristol” promise.
Will it cost more at night, weekends or bank holidays?
No. Same price, 24/7. No surcharge for evenings, weekends or bank holidays. Many locksmiths add 25–50% on top after 6pm or at the weekend — we don’t. The price we quote on the call is what you pay, whatever time you call.
I can’t reach you on the phone — what now?
If Sam is mid-job he can’t pick up immediately, but he’ll see your missed call and ring back within 5 minutes. If you can’t wait, WhatsApp the number a photo of the door or lock — that gets seen during a job in a way a ringing phone doesn’t.
Will you damage my door or lock?
Around 9 out of 10 lock-outs are opened with non-destructive entry — picking, bypassing or other techniques that leave the lock working afterwards. Drilling is a last resort, and we’ll tell you on arrival if it’s the only option. Where a lock has to be replaced (because it’s already broken), we fit British Standard or 3-star anti-snap cylinders.
Can I prove it’s my home before you let me in?
Yes — and we’ll ask you to. We check ID and proof of address before we open a property we’ve been called to. Driving licence, utility bill on your phone, or anything else linking you to the address is fine. This protects you and us. If you can’t prove it’s your home, we won’t open the door — even if you’ve already paid.
Do you do emergency commercial calls?
Yes — same 30-minute target as residential. Office lock-outs, shop break-ins, fire-exit emergencies, master key failures. 14-day invoice terms available for repeat commercial clients. Phone us regardless of the day or time. See commercial locksmith services.
Do you cover my postcode?
We cover all Bristol BS postcodes (BS1–BS49) plus parts of South Gloucestershire (GL12), Bath & North East Somerset (BA1–BA15) and North Somerset. We also reach Gloucester, Chepstow, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Weston-super-Mare. If you’re unsure — just phone us. We’ll tell you straight whether we can help.
